It was the Spring of 2015 when we were last within the confines of The MacArthur to host an edition of Minimal Effort.
A lot has happened with the brand since, including plenty of blood, sweat and tears involved in the struggles of finding a stable home for our vision. We have taken every single set-back and examined each in its own right, working hard toward locating the ideal venue to host Minimal Effort: NYE 2017.
It is with this in mind that we are returning to The MacArthur on December 31st to ring in 2018.
Formerly known as The Park Plaza, The MacArthurt is a historic special events venue located deep inside the City of Los Angeles. The MacArthur was originally built in 1925 for the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, who sought to create a memorial for members who lost their lives during World War I. The building was designed by renowned Art Deco architect Claud Beelman during his time as Senior Partner at the prestigious firm Curlett + Beelman.
Conceived in the Gothic Revival architectural style, the building features enormous angels on each corner of its exterior and a set of antique brass elk antlers above the grand entry to the building. The elaborate interior murals and decorative paintings were designed by Anthony Heinsbergen and Co, noted painter of numerous Los Angeles cultural landmarks. The central design of the lobby ceiling is based on the Villa Madama, a Renaissance era project by Raphael and Giulio Romano.
The Elks later sold the building due to shrinking attendance in their ranks, after which it was transformed into a luxurious set perfectly on the once glamorous MacArthur Park. Today, The MacArthur is no longer a functioning hotel, but is exclusively used for events and filming.
